Create a strong class culture, so you don’t have to manage

It all begins with an idea.

Imagine you call your friend or family member and asked, “how are you?” and they responded — “I am managing.” What would your initial thoughts be? For me, when someone says “I am managing,” it signals that they’re holding it together—but just barely. It’s not a red flag in the screaming-for-help sense, but it’s certainly a yellow one. It tells me they might be carrying more than they’re comfortable sharing, or that life is demanding more of them than usual.

Is that how you want to feel all year when it comes to your students? My guess is no. So what’s the solution? Create a strong classroom (or school) culture where meeting expectations, following the rules, routines and procedures are the norm.

How?

  • Begin with the end in mind! Have a mission/vision so that you have a predetermined destination and can create a strategic plan to get there.

  • Collaborate with your students/staff. Make them co-creators by using data analysis like surveys, 1-1 meetings, whole group forums

  • Use the data to put solutions and ideas your strategic plan.

  • Celebrate meeting expectations and address when expectations are not met and align it to your mission and vision.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
